Fakes and Forgeries
Fakes, forgeries and copies of lifesaving medals and civil decorations are increasing in prevalence and sophistication. In an effort to limit the impact of these on collectors, details of known fake, copy, renamed, or otherwise dubious medals in these categories can be listed here.

Do remember that where a proven fake exists the genuine original may well also survive. Please contact me directly if you have items to list.

  1. RNLI bronze medal (Hilary obverse) named to 'COXn H LEE 84.' with an original case. This is believed to be an original unnamed medal that has at some point been unofficially named (see LSARS Journal, 65, p. 76)
  2. RHS bronze medal (small type). Cast copies of this medal, named, have been appearing for sale on ebay and other sites. Those seen so far have been advertised as copies.
