 Small type, named 'John McKenzie, 1st February 1894'. With ribbon buckle, in (damaged) case of issue. Together with British War and Mercantile Marine War Medals (John McKenzie), in card box of issue. RHS case no 27309: At 10pm on 1 February 1894 a man was seen to jump overboard from the SS Dorunda while at sea at lat 8 15S, long 127 19E (off the Philippines). The fourth mate, John Webster, jumped after him and was followed by John McKenzie, Boatswain, both doing so despite warnings that sharks were about. Both men failed to find the man and were taken back aboard the ship after some 15 minutes. McKenzie was erroneously issued with the 'successful' type RHS medal.
