Campaign medals | to Lieutenant and later Major Arthur Ferdinand Bosworth, Intelligence Corps. EF, £325
Group of seven to Major Arthur Ferdinand Bosworth, Intelligence Corps. 1914-15 Star trio and MID (these named: Lt. A. F. Bosworth. Intell. C), 1939-45 Star, Defence and War Medals (these last three unnamed as issued), together with Worshipful Company of Musicians livery badge (named and dated 8 July 1924). The first six mounted as worn, together with related miniatures, cased tie pin, and Freedom of the City of London certificate awarded to Peter Bosworth Kirkwood Gracey, dated 6 March 1968 (Gracey [1921-2006] was a relative of Bosworth and was an international cricketer).
Born in Leipzig in 1893 the son of music publisher Arthur Edwin Bosworth, Bosworth grew up initially in Leipzig. He was educated at Haileybury, returning in 1910 to work in Leipzig in his father's business. With the outbreak of the war he (and his brother Lawrence, and his two sisters) joined the intelligence services. Bosworth was commissioned on 10 April 1915 into the Intelligence Corps and was MID by General Plummer (LG 30 May 1918, p. 6329). He relinquished his commission in April 1919, being later granted the rank of Captain. He and his brother took over the family business in 1923. With the outbreak of WWII he was again commissioned back into the Intelligence Corps (Lt and Temp Capt, on 11 September 1939), being promoted Captain and Temp Major on 15 Feb 1944. He ended the war with the rank of Hon Major (Army List, April 1946). Bosworth returned to the music publishing business and died in 1959. Sold with substantial family details, copy photographs, MIC, LG and other details. His WWI trio are late issues, being granted in 1950 presumably at the same time as he claimed his WWII entitlement (his brother Lawrence, who won the MC and OBE with the Intelligence Corps in WWI appears to never have claimed his own campaign medals). Further research is required on his career in the Intelligence Corps. NEF, toned, £325.
