THE HUMANE SOCIETY FOR THE HUNDRED OF SALFORD

The 'unusual' name of the Hundred of Salford goes back over one thousand years when in the 9th century, King Alfred, reorganised the shires of England into areas known as 'Hundreds'. The area of south east Lancashire became known as the Hundred of Salfordshire although in the course of time the name was shortened to the Hundred of Salford....
